Department of Craniofacial, Oral and Materials Sciences

Department of Craniofacial, Oral and Materials Sciences research and educational activities are fully integrated with the multi and interdisciplinary research community at CU Anschutz which includes the Schools of MedicineDental MedicineNursing and Pharmacy.

The department’s activities are further integrated with graduate training programs provided by the University of Colorado Denver, CU Anschutz Graduate School and by the Graduate School and Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering on the University of Colorado Boulder campus.

All members of the Department of Craniofacial, Oral and Materials Sciences have joint appointments in the basic science departments of the School of Medicine and/or the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at CU Boulder and all are members of CU Anschutz and/or CU Boulder Graduate School. Many are also members of the University of Colorado Anschutz Comprehensive Cancer Center

The integrated research of the department includes:

  • Molecular, genetic and developmental mechanisms involved in early craniofacial and neural crest development
  • Cutting-edge dental composite restorative materials and light-propelled nanoadditives
  • Cancer cellular and molecular biology with a primary focus on the signaling pathways involved in neoplastic development
  • Characterization for specific transcription factors that regulate vertebrae embryogenesis and cancer development
  • High-performance 3D multi-material inkjet printable polymers
  • Photoactivated polymeric biomaterials and tissue engineering*
