The Veterans Assistance Grant program is provided for our community of veterans in Colorado through funding provided by the State of Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
Patients who are currently participating in the CU Dental Team Care Clinics or those who are accepted through the CU School of Dental Medicine screening process and:
Are honorably discharged from service and can provide a DD214.
Do not qualify for Medicaid.
Do not have private dental insurance.
Income at or below 250% of the most current federal poverty guidelines based on family size.
Colorado Resident.
Carefully read the following information about the VAG program.
The School of Dental Medicine does not guarantee funding of treatment. Funding for a patient’s care is on a “first-come, first-served” basis and is subject to funding availability. You should not expect this to be comprehensive coverage for your dental needs. Funding will be capped at $2000 to enable more veterans to be served with our resources. We appreciate your understanding.
Not all procedures are covered by the program. While the VAG program covers about 90% of the treatments we provide, there are some procedures that are not covered by this program (this is not an exhaustive list):
3D scanning,
Fixed bridges,
Immediate dentures*,
Interim dentures,
Implants/implant-related treatments,
Occlusal guards, night guards, bite guards,
Periodontal surgeries, and
Teeth whitening.
*Immediate dentures will not be covered by this program. If you want dentures after a full mouth extraction, you may pay for them out of pocket. The VAG program does cover final dentures.
Any procedures not covered by the program will be the patient’s responsibility
This program does not provide any coverage in the Dental Faculty Practice. This funding is for the student clinics and, where approved, the resident clinics.
Note: You must notify the school immediately upon any change in financial status, enrollment in Medicaid dental coverage, or any other dental insurance policy (this includes any dental coverage attached to your Medicare benefits). If you fail to notify us of a change in status, you will be responsible for any charges incurred at the dental school following this change.
