What to Expect

At the CU Orthodontics Clinic, you can expect to receive excellent care in state-of-the-art facilities just like a great private practice. However, unlike a private practice, we are a teaching facility so you will receive treatment from residents who are licensed dentists being trained as specialists in orthodontics. Every step of your treatment will be supervised by expert faculty, so you will receive the benefit of expert opinions from multiple experienced dental professionals along the way.

  • Free Consultation
Receive a free evaluation to determine your orthodontic needs and discuss any questions you may have about our clinic. If you need braces, you will receive a cost estimation and payment options. (Approximately 30-60 minutes)

Before the next appointment, patients must visit his/her family dentist for a regular exam and cleaning. Cavities must be restored prior to beginning any orthodontic treatment. Patients must continue routine dental checkups and cleanings throughout orthodontic treatment. These routine dental services are not included in the fee for orthodontics either before, during or after the orthodontic treatment.

  • Diagnostic Records Appointment
At your next appointment, we will take photos, full x-rays, and an impression of your teeth. The diagnostic records provide the information required to determine the patient’s treatment plan.

  • Treatment and Financial Consultation Appointment
At this appointment, you will receive a personalized treatment plan and cost estimation, and we will discuss clinical procedures and patient compliance options such as oral hygiene, elastic wear, headgear wear, etc. We want you to be completely comfortable with your treatment plan, and we are happy to answer all your questions.

If you are ready to proceed, you will review and sign the required consent forms and financial contracts. Treatment may be initiated at this appointment if a payment plan has been initiated. All individuals under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for this appointment.

  • Ongoing Orthodontic Care
Patients are typically seen in the clinic every 4-8 weeks while undergoing active orthodontic treatment. It is critical that patients do not miss appointments. Missed appointments can result in an unnecessary extension of treatment time or adverse consequences that result in increased treatment.

Before your appointment, you will need to complete the virtual check-in process.

  • Please call us at (303) 724-8722 from your car, or outside the building (if you are using different transportation) when you arrive for your appointment.
  • We will ask you screening questions and let you know when you should enter the building's west entrance.
  • A CU Dental team member will also contact you the day before your appointment to ask screening questions and confirm your appointment.

Your health and safety are important to us. The CU School of Dental Medicine has several safety protocols and requirements in place.
